Election Information:

The JETAA board of officers is elected at the beginning of every year, although some positions carry two-year terms. Our officers come from all across the state of Florida, and as a result the meetings typically take place electronically and, occasionally, in a central meeting location such as Orlando.

Elections take place in February, and the new board is announced in March. The new officers will begin their duties April 1.

Duties and responsibilities vary according to the posts, but the main goals are to:

  • Maintain JET alumni connections to the Program
  • Communicate with National JETAA and other chapters
  • Create and advertize events and get-togethers for JET alumni to attend
  • Assist with helping new JETs prepare for their journey (as schedules allow)
  • Help promote the program at university information sessions (as schedules allow)
  • Attend annual JETAA conventions

If one of the below positions appeals to you, or if you know someone perfectly suited for one of the jobs, please send in a nomination!

Positions:

President:

The President is the official representative of Florida JETAA.  It is his or her job to maintain our network of past program participants in Florida as well to promote exchange amongst our members, which is done primarily through organizing social events, as well as coordinating the work of our regional representatives. The president also maintains our relaionship with the consulate and oversee all the workings of the chapter.

This position carries a 2-year term.

Vice-President:

The Vice-President assists the President and other officers in coordinating and organizing JETAA events throughout the state. He or she is also responsible for gathering information for chapter reports that are submitted to CLAIR and the JETAA Country Representative. The Vice-President also attends the annual national conference if the President is unable to do so, and assists in the promotion of the JET program and Japanese culture at local events and schools in conjunction with the consulate office.

This position carries a 1-year term.

Treasurer:

The treasurer is responsible for keeping track of the JETAA budget and expenses. He or she works with other JETAA officers in planning events, and is responsible for making sure all expenses are covered. The treasurer plans annual budgets to submit through the Miami JET office in planning for the year ahead.

This position carries a 2-year term.

Secretary:

The secretary is responsible for recording minutes at JETAA meetings and discussion groups. He or she also helps to plan events and gatherings with other JETAA officers. The secretary assists the Newsletter Chair in collecting and compiling material for the newsletters.

Note: As this position has been dormant for the past few years, the duties and responsibilities will largely be created by the next person to hold this role. Some possibilities include assisting the webmaster in creating content for the JETAA webpage, assisting the regional representatives with communications between subchapters, and helping the President and JET Program Coordinator gather material for, edit, and assemble a "Survival Guide" for new JETs and a "Welcome Home" pack for returning JETs.

Position carries a 1-year term.
Webmaster: (by volunteer basis)
The webmaster is responsible for designing, updating, and creating content for the JETAA webpage. He or she will work closely with other officers, the JET Program Coordinator, and regional representatives to post new events and keep all data up-to-date and relevant. The webmaster will also assist with planning JETAA events and gatherings throughout the state.
Newsletter: (by volunteer basis)
The newsletter chair is responsible for designing, editing, and collecting material for 4 newsletters per year. He or she works with the secretary to assemble newsletter content and helps keep track of the Newsletter Blog.
Regional Representatives: (by volunteer basis)
Regional Representatives keep the state connected. They help keep the webmaster and JETAA officers up-to-date on local events and happenings that they feel other JET alumni may want to attend. If available, regional representatives also assist with regional Q&A sessions and JET Program recruiting in the fall. Regional representatives can also help with organizing carpooling to JETAA events throughout the state. See here for the Florida regional subchapters.
